Aliens 03:20
Alien, what do you see Why keep all your secrets from me Do you know, why my life is so So strangely protracted and slow Breaking News! What have you heard? The fly on the wall got there first Killing time, keeps me alive Waiting for my future to arrive Oh no, can you hear the dialtone? Theres no fun in being alone Oh no, when I hear that dial tone And I see you running away from me Alien, I don’t know what to do Tell me how to be just like you I, just Close my eyes, slowly count to 10 Then go back to 1 and start again Oh no, can I hear that dialtone? Theres no fun in being alone Oh no, when I hear that dial tone And I see you running away from here

about

In-Flight Movie have caused quite a stir with a recent string of packed out gigs in Oxford and The EP clearly underlines why. With pulsing electro-pop nuggets such as opener Aliens filtering synth legends such as New Order and Neu! through a rawkus, post-punk filter of bands such as LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture. There's also a hint of Mark E. Smith by way of Jarvis style cynicism in James's biting lyrics, as he explains, "the songs on the EP explore one's daily struggle with the terrifying banality of the modern world, but are contrasted with the urge to find deeper meaning and the otherworldly as an escape from the terrifying mediocrity of life". Aliens captures this duality perfectly, it tells the story of someone trying to overcome boredom by reaching out to Aliens only to find they are not interested in talking and equally as confused by the universe as humans are. This mix of cathartic, sky-scraping musical grandeur and tongue-in-cheek lyricism is a fascinating combination and, combined with their virtuosic musicianship and James's epic vocal, mark In-Flight Movie as serious ones to watch. It seems only a matter of time before In-Flight Movie become the latest in a long line of musical stars to rise out of the legendary Oxford music scene.

The EP was recorded by the band and mixed by Mike Bannard at Safehouse Studios, Oxford.
